Plenty of history is crammed into this two-mile loop, which crosses the river at the Stone Arch and Hennepin Avenue Bridges and follows its banks along West River Parkway and Main Street. Be sure to leave ample time in your stroll to read about the geology and history of the area on the many interpretive signs. On the western end of the Hennepin Avenue Bridge, be sure to stop under the bridge in First Bridge Park and see some of the archaeological remains of the first bridge ever to cross the Mississippi.
